Soft Tissue Grafting
When gums have receded, a gum graft may be needed to protect your teeth from sensitivity and damage. Gum recession occurs when the tissue that surrounds the teeth pulls away and exposes more of the tooth or its root. Gum recession is a very common problem affecting four to 12% of adults. This condition often goes unnoticed until it becomes severe. Over time, an exposed tooth root not only looks unattractive but can also cause tooth sensitivity and damage. If not treated, gum recession can lead to serious conditions including tooth loss. In order to repair the damage and prevent further issues, a gum graft may be recommended.
In the past, dentists would harvest the tissue for soft tissue grafts from the roof of the mouth. We are proud to now offer AlloDerm®. With this new process, we don’t have to take tissue from the palate. We can now cover the receding gums and exposed roots with this revolutionary, new grafting technique.
AlloDerm® Regenerative Tissue Matrix enables us to restore your gum line using donated tissue that has been processed to remove cells. Its success in soft tissue procedures is documented by more than ten years of dental applications and research. AlloDerm can be used for a variety of soft tissue procedures including:
- Root coverage
- Gingival augmentation
- Soft tissue ridge augmentation
- Soft tissue augmentation around implants
